Frame Drum Intensive Camp Portugal (in Vilar das Almas at „Casa do Silêncio“)

Murat Coşkun invites you to the "Frame Drum Intensive Camp" (FDIC) in Vilar das Almas: Immerse yourself in frame drumming for a week! Everyone who wants to get more involved with their frame drums is welcome. I am particularly pleased that among others Beatriz Picas (cello and vocals) and Malika Coşkun will be at the camp to "train" with you, to drum and sing and to arrange pieces.

Where does it take place?
The “Frame Drum Intensive Camp” (FDIC) is taking place for the first time in Vilar das Almas (around  1 hour from Porto) in collaboration with the “Magia da Harpa” association. We will set up our camp in the “Casa do Silêncio” and from there we will go on “drum excursions” into the surrounding area and nature.

 
What is the schedule and daily routine?
Our week looks something like this:
Monday evening, September 1st: Arrival (dinner and welcome program)
Tuesday, September 2nd until Saturday, September 6th: Lessons from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. with lunch break and evening program

We start the day with a warm-up. The lessons take place primarily in the "Casa do Silêncio", from where we also want to go on "drum excursions" into nature and the surrounding area. If necessary, we split up into different small groups. After dinner, we take the opportunity to make music together, improvise, sing and drum - at percussion jams, an "open stage" as well as sessions and performances with musicians on site.

What do we do during the week?
At the FDIC you have time
- to learn and try out new playing techniques and ideas.
- to get into a flow of playing and practicing
- to develop your own practice routine
- to deepen and strengthen Your rhythmical skills
- for individual feedbacks with Murat
- to transfer your own creativity to the frame drum
- to discover your own strengths in playing
- to get to know the differences between various frame drum styles and traditions
- to find out which direction you want to go in your frame drum playing
- to make music together in intensive interaction and to have an exciting exchange.

If you are already technically more advanced and are interested in new techniques, then I offer my own playing techniques as a special "technical unit", such as "double bass technique", "brush techniques", independence (both on the drum and "hands-voice-feet"), "free-hand lap style", "flapping technique".

Participation requirement:
The recommended level is "intermediate-advanced level", but there is something for everyone! In addition to a good knowledge of basic combinations on the frame drum, you should also bring curiosity and joy!
Drums can be borrowed if required.

Meals:
Food is provided with vegetarian, vegan and also delicious Portuguese cuisine. Meals are included in the participation fee.

Contribution to expenses:
The contribution to expenses is 510.- EUR. This fee includes:
- 6 hours of lessons daily (including individual lessons and feedback)
- Joint evening program
- 3 meals daily (plus dinner on the day of arrival and breakfast and lunch on the day of departure)

Accommodation:
The accommodation costs between 10.- EUR and 60.- EUR per night/person, depending on the selection you make. The "Magia da Harpa" association offers you various options for accommodation: - Apartments in the Casa do Silêncio (from single to shared rooms possible)
- Tents on the grounds of Casa do Silêncio
- Parking space for motorhome
- Overnight stay in a gym

Getting there:
You can either arrive by car, train, bus or plane. The nearest airport, Porto, is about 50 minutes away by car. From the airport you can take the bus to Braga. In Braga, a person from the “Magia de Harpa” association can pick you up and take you to the “Casa do Silêncio”.
